"Monopole" Art Nouveau multi-fuel stove by Deville & Cie |

We went right into the North East of France in the Lorraine region, on the German border to find this one, and what a wonderfully unusual stove it is. It is enamelled in a lovely bright green on all four sides and on each side of the casting is a pair of crested Birds of Paradise. The superbly flowing corner pillars are chromed. The natural and continuous Art Nouveau design dates the stove to around sometime between 1900-1920. We acquired it from the Grandson of the owner and he claims that it was in the family from new - great provenance! The workings of the stove are all in immaculate condition and the stove is ready to use. The firebox, riddler and ash box are all in excellent working order, as is the mica in the door. It does have one minor fault: the casting of the hinge retainer for the lid is broken, but this will be repaired shortly, and at the back near to the flue exit the enamel is slightly scorched, which is quite common when a stove is enamelled at the rear. It is quite tall - 89cms (35”)H x 40cms (15¾”)W x 40cms (15¾”)D. The flue is 9.7cms (3¾”) in diameter and is 47cms (17¾”) from the floor . This stove would add grandeur to any period home and would also compliment an elegant conservatory. This is a rare opportunity to own an individual piece of French 20th C history. Stoves as elegant as this one do not come on the market often so we advise you to make an offer early.
