This Poele
à salle à manger (dining room stove) by
Faure
is an
excellent find.
The body of the stove is in black enamel and there are green enamel
decorated panels on the top, front, left & right sides. The intricate detail of the
casting illustrates workmanship of this particular period at its best.
It was designed for use in the dining
room not only keeping the room warm, but also keeping the pot au feu warm!
(hot pot) Lift the lid and you'll find a double hotplate, and in the front
there's a small oven which is useful for keeping food hot or even for
cooking. Fuel is loaded in through the side loading door.
The enamel is generally in good condition, although there are some large chips
to the enamel above the front fire door due to scorching, which is common
with this type of stove. This enamel damage has been burnished with graphite
stove paste and passes virtually unseen. There are also some chips to the
back of the firebox which also have been burnished with graphite stove
paste. The brightwork is also a bit patchy in places. However it must be
said that this an 80 year old stove that has been used and loved by its
previous owners and the wear and tear is commensurate with all of this.
This stove would add grandeur to any period home and would also
compliment an elegant conservatory, so if you are looking for an individual piece of French 20th C history
with a stunning and practical design, then look no further. This is a rare opportunity to own an elegant and very practical stove, which does not come on the
market very often so we advise you to make an early offer .
