This is a superb 1920’s cast iron French
coal/wood burner called "the Poele Irlandais" by E LEAU of Lyon. This
stove is quite rare in the UK, and we've recently sold its sister, both
taken from the same Maison de Maitre. It is quite tall (just under 1m or
39") and has rich brown enamel panelling with delicate yellow fleur de
lys type decoration on the front and the back has the fleur de lys cast
into the body as you will see in the photo. The construction is of heavy
black cast iron, and it weighs at least 100kgs. The lower door has a
mica front so the fire is visible giving that wonderful cosy glow that
will make you feel warm even on the coldest of days! This is an
extremely unusual find and would make a centrepiece “talking point” for
any period drawing room/kitchen. It is in simply fantastic condition. It
is in full functioning order and the firebox is in excellent condition –
ready to put in the kindling and light the match! This is a beautiful
stove and these photos do not do it justice.
The dimensions are:
97cms (38 ¼”)H x 45cms (17 ¾”) L x 38cms
(15”) W and the flue size is12cms (4¾”)
