19th Century

Ceramic tile stove

Price: £595

This superb pastel green 19th century ceramic tiled wood burner is most probably from the Alsace region of France.

This is not just a means of heating your  drawing room, but a beautiful and elegant piece of 19th century French furniture.

It was made in the time old fashion of working clay into intricately cast moulds thus making a set of tiles which were then put together around a cast iron firebox and flue system and, in this case, a small useable oven - somewhere to bake potatoes, chestnuts or simply to keep a coq au vin warm in your dining room!.

This kind of stove uses the slow combustion system of heating, keep the ash built up and the ceramic heats to a lovely warm glow that diffuses naturally around the room.

Because of its construction, this stove is fragile when being transported. The brass bands seen in the photos are aesthetical but are fundamental in keeping the stove together when being moved. Of course, once in place, the stove is sturdy, and no different to a cast iron construction.

There are a couple of hairline fractures in one or two of the tiles, and one has been replaced at the back of the stove with a one of a slightly different colour. The cracks can be repaired but it not usual, as it is never a problem.

With a ceramic stove, it is essential that we deliver personally and place it in its new home. We have found with past clients who have bought this kind of stove, that this is the only way to secure a happy client and promote a good service.

It is in full functioning order and the firebox is in excellent condition.

This is an exceptionally beautiful stove, and being a beautiful shade of pastel green, it will fit in with most decors. These photos just about capture its elegance.

The physical dimensions are:

73cms (28¾”)H x 53cms (20¾”)W x 42cms (16½”)D and the flue size is 9.7cms (3¾”) and 49cms (19¼”) from the floor
